Surreal Estate, a story about Palm Beach real estate corruption, was written by Sugar M. and published by Graham Publishing Group.

Here is the truth. There really is no debate. If you are an author and plan to publish your book independently, then you should know the pros and cons of creating a print book and/or an ebook. But know this: you need both.

Print book lovers love the feel of paper.  We all get that. Holding a book in your hand, exploring the cover, and feeling the pages at your fingertips is fantastic. All book lovers know this.

Ebooks, on the other hand, are easy to read and easier to maneuver. It takes one hand. You can hold it any which way you choose and still see the words. You can change the font size. Heck, most e-readers these days have a built in light feature, which is darn convenient.

A print book can become community property. You can share it with your friends. You can leave it at one of those adorable mini-libraries people are putting in their front yards. Pretty cool.

Ebook readers weigh almost nothing and can accommodate hundreds, if not thousands, of books. It makes traveling darn easy. It makes going to the beach a breeze.

Print books are, without doubt, far superior when it comes to illustrations, pictures, diagrams, and images in general. You don’t get that with ebooks.

Some people complain about the cost of a Kindle or Nook or other ebook readers, but the truth is, this is a one-time purchase, and, most often, the actual ebook version of a particular book is going to be cheaper than the print version.

With a print book, you can highlight every page with your handy marker, and you can skim to your hearts content. It’s easy to bookmark and it looks great in your bookshelf.  Oh, yeah, and you don’t need a power cord or a plug because, well, paper doesn’t need charging.

Ebook junkies argue that highlighting and bookmarking is far easier with the newer readers than it is with a print book. You just have to know how to do it. Once you do, it’s a one-finger operation and it’s really a breeze reviewing; what’s more, you catalogue your notes and thoughts online and download or share them at a moment’s notice.

Print books are the joy of every person who has ever browsed a library or relaxed in a bookstore.

With ebooks, on the other hand, you can browse hundreds of samples right from the comfort of your own home. You can pick and choose. You never have to buy if you don’t want to. And they rarely, if ever, are out-of-stock, which can happen in a bookstore or library.

At Graham Publishing Group, we plan for both print book lovers and ebook advocates. And so should you.
